Economic Factors for Modular
British Columbia’s vibrant modular manufacturing sector can become a key economic driver in B.C.’s economy.
Modular Manufacturing generates millions of dollars in salaries and revenue. It adds value to our natural resources like B.C. Wood, and creates highly skilled good jobs in all communities of the Province. It also supports innovation in B.C..
Modular, and in particular factory built housing programs can further contribute to the Provinces growth and success. As an industry, we can expand and increase our capacity for our domestic needs and future export possibilities by recognizing unique Provincial momentum and environmental opportunities unique to BC.
These opportunities can lead to the development of carbon reduced housing that will benefit the construction industry on a local, national, and North American scale. This combination has the potential to be a market disruptor to achieving our housing targets. This focused group, Modular BC would continue to champion, identify, and introduce the framework to achieve this disruption to the industry.
We know that collectively we can have a major continued impact in helping the Province’s manufactured housing industry better develop these opportunities as well as understand through hands on experience the fabrication and movement of homes in both rural and in the urban environment, while also promising opportunities for scale through domestic and American market demand. Most importantly, homes are built locally, and support British Columbians through our Made in B.C. program.
Our Province has the unique opportunity to break the mold on traditional North American building methods and create opportunities for growth and innovation through quick, efficient and environmentally conscious building approaches that are sustainable and improve productivity. Modular also contributes and can increase contribution to B.C.’s workforce by adding to the number of high-earning, skilled manufacturing positions needed in both rural and urban areas, while also providing opportunities for women, Indigenous Peoples and other minority groups with jobs across the Province.
We foresee this market expanding beyond B.C. and believe that modular opens export opportunities to other provinces and territories across Canada, including the option to develop globally. Opportunities also extend to States and cities within the United States, like Seattle, Washington and Los Angeles, California, who have recently implemented mass programs for infill and other forms of housing.
